Private Pilot Prep: FAA Exam for iPhone, iPad and Mac
Support
A study aid for the FAA Private Pilot - Airplane knowledge test (PAR) — regulations, weather, airspace and airports, navigation, aircraft and systems, performance and weight and balance, and human factors.
Questions, bug reports, or a question you think is wrong? Email patrguzz@gmail.com. Corrections to the question bank are especially welcome — please include the question and the reference you're working from (AIM paragraph, 14 CFR section, or FAA handbook chapter).
Requirements
iPhone or iPad with iOS 26 or later, or a Mac with macOS 26 or later. Studying works entirely offline; the internet is used only by iCloud, to sync your progress between your devices, and by the App Store for the optional Full Access purchase.
How the app works
Practice by topic — choose an answer, change your mind if you like, then confirm it to see the explanation, reference and ACS code — or sit the full 60-question mock test under the real 2-hour time limit with the pass rule as the examiner applies it — 70% overall — or a shorter timed quiz on one subject. Every answer is tracked: missed questions come back on a spaced schedule in Smart Review, and the Home tab estimates your readiness by area and topic. The Nav Log Trainer plans a fresh VFR cross-country between real airports and asks the heading, groundspeed, time, fuel and compass questions computed from it; the Weight & Balance Trainer generates a loading problem; the METAR & TAF Trainer generates a weather report and forecast to decode; and the Calculation Drills generate density altitude, time-speed-distance, fuel, time zone, crosswind and similar problems with worked solutions.
Progress and resetting
Your iPhone, iPad and Mac combine their progress through your own iCloud account: answers add up, the review schedule carries on from your latest answer, and mock exam results from every device appear together. Sign in to iCloud on each device; the switch is in Library › Sync, and it is on unless you turn it off. Every device still keeps its own copy, so studying works offline and catches up when you are back online. The copy lives in the private database of your own iCloud account: the developer cannot see it, and nothing is stored on a server of ours. To delete it, use Settings › your name › iCloud › Storage › PPL Prep US on an iPhone or iPad. To start over, use "Reset all progress" at the bottom of the Library tab: with sync on it erases progress on every device, with sync off on that device only.
Full Access, restoring a purchase and offer codes
The app is free to try: 50 practice questions in any mode, one full 60-question mock test, and the whole Library. Full Access is a single one-time in-app purchase — no subscription — that unlocks every question, unlimited mock tests and subject quizzes, all the trainers and Test Report Review, on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. It follows your Apple Account: on another device it unlocks by itself, or tap Restore purchases in the Full Access section of the Library tab. Have an offer code? Tap Redeem a code there or on the purchase screen. With iCloud sync on, the free questions and the free mock test are shared by your synced devices. Downloaded the app before version 1.2? You keep everything, free.
A question looks wrong?
Every question carries an explanation and a source reference. If you believe an answer conflicts with the current AIM, 14 CFR or FAA handbooks, email the question text and your reference — verified corrections ship in the next update. Always treat the current official publications as authoritative.
About the nav-log airports
The airports in the Nav Log Trainer are real United States airports, positioned from public-domain data so that tracks and distances are realistic. The winds, variation, airspeed, fuel flow and deviation card are generated for practice and are labeled as planning variations. Never use a generated log for a real flight.
